As promised...
Jul. 3rd, 2005 12:42 pmAlrighty, here we go.
I left Monday night/Tuesday morning around 2 AM after about an hour and a half of sleep and headed down. The drive was long and boring and sleepy, which was as expected. I got to Jenna's house around 12:30-ish and she had to go to a meeting, so I napped on her couch til she got back. Then we drove down the road a little ways and went to Ocoee. Its this beautiful area with rivers and dams and mountains and such. There's no way to do it justice here, so just look at the pictures and you'll see. We pulled off all over the place to take pictures, and then by accident found this little windy gravel road that went up to the top of the mountain and down the back side. We almost got hit by crazy speeding pickups and pushed off the mountain several times, lol. We went home and had supper, then went out for ice cream at this awesome place called Brewsters (it rivals Coldstone for you OH people) I then intoduced Jenna and Jonathan to the wonder that is Kung Pow. Wee-oo-wee-ooo.
Wed. we woke up a sat around for a bit, then couldnt stand to wait any longer and went to Rock City. Ever since I read American Gods I have been obsessed w./ this place, and oh the luck that its the next city over from Jenna. It was amazing and again, words can't express it. Yes it's a tourist trap, but it's also a place that if I lived down there I would by a season pass and go every week... probably more. It's this large garden trail on top of Lookout Mountain that winds all over through caves, under natural stone bridges, along the edge of the mountain, past little streams, and even has an amazing waterfall. After we unfortunately hit the end of the trail, we went over to this used bookstore called McKay's. Let me tell you, its like the size of a Border's but everything they have is used; video games, music, movies, books, etc. I spent like $91, lol. But check out what I got: Blue Album ~ Weezer, Dookie ~ Green Day, Worms World Party, the first 2 Harry Potter books (I was missing them), Angels & Demons ~ Dan Brown, Sunshine ~ Robin McKinley, Good Omens ~ Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet, the first 4 Fushigi Ygui manga, Liar Liar, Dogma, Bio-Dome, The Wedding Singer, and Kung Pow. Phew, not bad for $91. We went out to the tiny "real soutern cooking" restaurant that night and it was some good food. We watched Dogma, then called it a night.
Thursday we hung around Jenna's town. We drove down to Okoee again for kicks and ended up finding this beautiful piece of driftwood that neither of us could resist. The problem was it was in the river which seemed fairly deep there, and there was no down or up. Except for this like 8 ft. rock face that was straight down and didnt really have any good holds. So I took off my shoes and used my magic rock climbing abilities to get it out. It involved hanging all my weight off one hand where the only good hold was, leaning back and using my foot to fish out the log and haul it up to my free hand. Not easy, lol. Then we went to Ms. Be's Purple Bus. Its this awesome head-shop kinda place. I bought some Nag Champa oil, a hippie bell bracelet, and a carved black bone feather for he end of the wrap I plan to put in my hair sometime soon. Ms. Be was cool. Then we ate lunch at a place owned by one of Jenna's friends, and wandered around some little shop. One of which was another used book store, but the other kind. The kind w./ concrete floors, a smell of must, books strewn about everywhere, and the owner can tell you from memory if he has a book or not. There I picked up the Stand, Digital Fortress (Dan Brown), and Abarat (Clive Barker). And not just any Abarat, but the advanced reading copy of it ^^. So cool. Then we went and played in this net little park Jenna had found in Cleveland.
I left that night around 7 and stopped and played in Knoxville at the 1982 World's Fair Park. It was awesome. I got there right before sunset, so the Sun Sphere was lit up real well.
There's so many stories to tell, but I'll only briefly share a few that are either really cool, or Jenna threatened to tell worse if I didn't. For one thing, while we were driving to McKay's we heard what sounded like explosives going off. I looked to the left where it sounded like it had come from when Jenna screams "Meg!" I turn forwards and we find out it was a semi's tire exploding and now its flying straight at us, partially towards the windshield and some on the ground. Those suckers are heavy and huge and have metal in them... I managed to swerve and steer around it (it was all over the highway) and not get hit by any either. *phew* The other interesting thing is apparantly I'm (as Jen put it) a "hot commodity" in the south. In the 2 1/2 days I was there, I got honked at and whisteled at 6 seperate times -_-. And the ice cream guy at Brewsters was hitting on me and telling me I needed to come back, and when I told him I lived in Ohio, he told me who cares I should come get ice cream from him again, itd be "worth the trip" rofl. And he was really hot *melts* All week Jen and John kept asking if I wanted to go see my boyfriend at Brewsters and that I should at least have gotten his name and number, lol. There were two hot hippie boys hanging out at Ms. Be's that flirted w./ me too. And they weren't dirty hippie boys, they were the kind that smell nice like oils and incense *drools* Alos, I had been partially thinking of wanting to stay down there permanently anyways, and then Jenna hadda go and invite me to stay, telling me I could use their spare bedroom. And I really wanted to. Good job market, beautiful area, everyones really nice, peaceful atmosphere, etc etc.... Man. I dunno what Ima do about it. I really think it would be good, but I can't bring myself to do it.
Anyways, pics and such. Heres the pics http://photos.yahoo.com/tribalprincess@sbcglobal.net The "macro" folder is a set of come pretty closeups I did of things. And theres also 3 videos.
